My joy and my sorrow

Description

Rascal

This is a painting of healing.
For my birthday this year my darling husband gave me two puppies. Rascal and Lolli-PoP. I watched them grow until I could bring them home visiting and holding them, and on my birthday they came home, it was such a joy and the most precious birthday present I ever received. My husband and I were totally smitten and just adored these playful lively pups. Only after one month of knowing them, Rascal got sick and died and Lolli died one week later. We were totally devastated and our hearts ache and grieve. It is hard to explain the pain that we felt and continue to feel. They brought us such joy and delight.
Goodbye my precious little Rascal, my tears are falling.

I have a few comments for this one.
1. I am so sorry for your loss (on all three accounts). I am a veterinary student and have had to say good bye to too many of my client's and my own pets to count. I console myself with the quote, "With ever ending, there is a beginning". I hope time heals your heart well.

2. I find it interesting that this work, a memorial to the pup, is one of the least detailed of your pieces.
3. Also, the detail on the pants, boots and hands have more contrast than the pup.

It almost seems like the puppy is already a ghost even though this looks like a scene from the day you brought them home. I suspect you did this once for the cathartic vallue, and maybe putting your usually amount of detail into the pup was too much...
I digress, I just wanted to say that this one has a haunting quality to it and I like it very much.
